In a rare and strong response, Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, affirmed that North Korea is not interested in any of the peace proposals or policies put forward by South Korea, considering those initiatives as mere retreats from "malicious" activities previously carried out by Seoul.
In statements reported by the North Korean Central News Agency, Kim Yo Jong stated that the new South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's commitment to maintaining the security alliance with the United States confirms Seoul's continued hostile approach, emphasizing that this "is not worthy of our evaluation."
The senior official in the ruling party added that if South Korea expects the consequences of its actions to be canceled out with emotional words alone, then this is a major misjudgment.
She clarified that Lee's measures are nothing but a retreat from "activities that should not have been taken in the first place," confirming that there is "nothing to discuss with Seoul regardless of the policies or proposals."
This stance comes amid attempts by Lee Jae-myung, who took office on June 4 after early elections, to improve relations with the northern neighbor, which have reached their lowest levels in recent years.
The South Korean President has taken steps to reduce tensions, including halting broadcasts through loudspeakers that broadcast anti-North Korea propaganda and banning the launch of leaflets that provoke Pyongyang's anger.
Amid these tensions, the issue of relations between the Koreas remains the focus of the world's attention, awaiting developments that could change the course of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
