The newspaper "South China Morning Post" reported today, Sunday, citing sources, that the American President Donald Trump may visit China before heading to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum between October 30 and November 1, or he may meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit scheduled in South Korea.
The countries are seeking to negotiate an end to the escalating trade war that has disrupted global trade and supply chains.
Trump has sought to impose tariffs on almost all goods imported by Americans, saying it will boost domestic industry, while critics argue it will raise prices on many goods for consumers in the United States.
Trump has also called for a basic tariff of 10% on goods imported from all countries, with higher rates on goods from the most "problematic" countries, including China, which currently faces the highest tariffs at 55%.
