In a new move, Google has decided to prevent YouTube users who use ad-blocking tools from watching videos on the app until they disable these tools. This decision is part of a strict policy imposed by the company last year, aiming to protect advertisers' rights and the revenue on which the platform relies. Google insists that blocking ads while watching videos is a violation of YouTube's terms of service, so the company prohibits playing videos for users who continue to use ad-blocking tools. Reports from users on Reddit indicate that some popular ad-blocking tools like uBlock Origin and AdBlock are no longer effective on YouTube as they used to be. Some users mentioned being able to temporarily bypass the block by using the "Share" and "Embed" options for the video, but this is a limited and non-permanent solution. Some users encounter a large black screen with a white message saying, "Ads are blocked on YouTube. It seems you are using an ad blocker," when trying to watch videos with the ad-blocking tool enabled, while others see an empty screen with no content, indicating that Google is punishing ad-blocking users to prevent loss of ad revenue displayed before and during videos. Google continuously updates its technologies to enhance its ability to detect ad-blocking tools and penalize users, making it harder for them to avoid ads. Despite Google's current control, many Reddit users believe that ad-blocking tools will eventually find new solutions to bypass these restrictions, likening the situation to a "cat and mouse" game that continues and renews between the parties.
