An earthquake of 5.3 magnitude struck central Pakistan this Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake occurred around 3:30 AM local time, with its epicenter approximately 60 kilometers northeast of the city of Barkhan in the Pakistani region.
So far, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or damages caused by the tremor, reminding Pakistan of its sensitive geological situation, being located at the convergence of the Indian tectonic plate with the Eurasian plate, making it prone to frequent earthquakes.
This is not the first destructive earthquake to hit Pakistan; in 2015, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake resulted in the deaths of about 400 people in Pakistan and Afghanistan, while another devastating earthquake in 2005 with a magnitude of 7.6 led to the death of over 73,000 people and displaced millions in Kashmir.
The Balochistan region also witnessed the destructive earthquake in 2021, which claimed the lives of 20 people, as landslides hindered rescue operations in remote mountainous areas.
Pakistan remains vigilant in the face of these natural disasters that threaten the lives of its inhabitants at any moment.
