I performed my first permanent pacemaker implantation surgeries for two patients at Ibn Al-Waleed Hospital in Homs province in the past few days. The first patient is 68 years old and the second is 80 years old, both suffering from complete heart blockage for years. "SANA" quoted Dr. Mohammad Al-Mohammad, the director of Ibn Al-Waleed Hospital, saying that pacemakers were implanted for the two patients to address their heart blockages caused by the failure of electrical signals to pass from the atria to the ventricles, resulting in slow heart rate, dizziness, and occasional fainting. Al-Mohammad added that "the pacemaker implantation surgery improves the quality of life for patients with heart rhythm disorders, especially those with heart conditions causing rhythm disturbances, which limit activity and negatively impact the patient's life." He mentioned that the cost of this surgery in private hospitals is very high, around three thousand dollars, while it was provided for free at Ibn Al-Waleed Hospital, with the patient only bearing the cost of the device. This type of surgery is a step towards developing and expanding the services provided by the hospital, especially as it is the first time such surgeries are being performed in public hospitals in Homs province, following multiple training sessions for the medical and health staff at the hospital.
