Moscow rejects European move to reimpose UN sanctions on Iran

Russian Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyanskiy, said today, Thursday, that the UN Security Council should not take any steps regarding the initiative launched by France, Britain, and Germany to reactivate UN sanctions on Iran, considering that this step lacks any legal basis.

Polyanskiy added that the European move, which extends over 30 days, does not carry any binding nature and does not entail any legal action within the corridors of the United Nations, referring to Russia's position rejecting the escalation of pressure on Tehran regarding its nuclear file.

These statements come amid rising tensions between Iran and Western countries, against the backdrop of attempts to reimpose sanctions that had been lifted under the nuclear agreement, amid divisions within the Security Council regarding the feasibility of this path.
