In a new medical warning, the US Food and Drug Administration pointed out potential health risks of some tattoo inks used in tattooing, as these inks contain a type of bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa. According to a study conducted by the agency, inks such as "Screed Tattoo Ink Rev'n Black" and "Screed Tattoo Ink Sunny Days" contain this bacteria, which can cause serious skin infections if injected under the skin during the tattooing process. Experts explained that this infection may appear as red skin rash and pustules, and may leave permanent scars on the skin if not treated properly. They also emphasized that the symptoms of the infection may initially resemble allergy symptoms, which could lead to a delay in proper treatment. In the same context, the agency indicated that the infection can occur if the natural skin barrier is breached, allowing bacteria to penetrate beneath the skin surface. Therefore, the agency urged tattoo centers to avoid using or selling these types of inks contaminated with bacteria, and advised individuals interested in getting a tattoo to ensure the type of ink used in the tattoo and avoid types that pose these health risks. The agency concluded that individuals should take caution and carefully verify the ink used before getting any tattoo to avoid potential health problems associated with using these types of inks.
