Malaysia Brings Together Thai and Cambodian Leaders

The Thai government has reported that the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia will meet in Malaysia tomorrow, Monday, for talks to end the hostilities between the two countries that began 4 days ago and claimed the lives of dozens.

Jirayu Huangsub, the spokesperson for the Thai Prime Minister's Office, stated that the Acting Prime Minister, Poomtham Vechayachai, will attend the talks tomorrow, in response to an invitation from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss peace efforts in the region.

The spokesperson added that his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Manet, will also attend the talks, although the Cambodian side did not immediately confirm.

This comes following mediation efforts by US President Donald Trump to end the border conflict. The fighting, now entering its fourth day, has resulted in the deaths of at least 34 people and the displacement of over 168,000.

Earlier today, Sunday, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense spokesperson, Mali Sotchiata, mentioned that despite strong calls from the international community, including the UN Secretary-General and the US President, to cease fire and reach a peaceful solution to the ongoing border clashes, "Thailand continues its hostilities against Cambodia."

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Sotchiata stated that Thai forces continued their hostilities against Cambodian targets around 2 am this Sunday in several areas along the border, according to the Cambodian newspaper "Khmer Times".

She added that over 80,000 people have been evacuated due to the ongoing conflict, while Thai military operations have affected 130,000 students from 536 schools in 14 border areas.
