French President Emmanuel Macron said today, Saturday, that he spoke with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shar'a about the recent violence in Syria, emphasizing the need to prevent the recurrence of such events and protect civilians.
In a post on the "X" platform, Macron added: "The ceasefire in Sweida is a positive sign, and peaceful dialogue should now enable the goal of unifying Syria while respecting the rights of all its citizens."
Macron said: "It is essential for negotiations between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian authorities to proceed in good faith."
He added: "We have reiterated our commitment to Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, noted President Al-Shar'a's commitment to combating terrorism, and emphasized the need for mutual cooperation."
