In the midst of escalating tensions and protests against immigration policies in the United States, Los Angeles Mayor "Karen Bass" expressed her desire to speak directly to President Donald Trump, stating: "I want him to understand the importance of what is happening here," referring to the worsening crisis in the city. This statement comes amid angry protests in Los Angeles in recent days, objecting to a widespread campaign targeting undocumented immigrants. These protests erupted after the arrest of 44 individuals on June 6th and 7th by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, sparking street unrest and fueling a wave of anger that turned into confrontations, marked by riots, road closures, and attacks on forces with stones and explosives. Facing these protests, the U.S. government deployed around 4,800 National Guard and Marine Corps personnel in Los Angeles alone, exceeding the U.S. military presence in Iraq (2,500 soldiers) and Syria (1,500 soldiers) combined, as reported by "ABC News." U.S. Defense Secretary "Pete Higseth" defended the decision to deploy forces, affirming during a Senate hearing that the step is legal and in line with the constitution, aiming to "maintain public order" and enable law enforcement agents to carry out their duties without endangering themselves. Furthermore, Assistant Defense Secretary "Breen Oulacott MacDonald" clarified that the estimated cost of the force deployment operation in Los Angeles reached around $134 million, covering logistical aspects such as accommodation, food, and transportation. These developments indicate an unprecedented escalation in dealing with the immigration issue in the United States, amidst internal and external calls for reviewing procedures and calming security responses. Amid ongoing tensions, Karen Bass seeks to convey the voice of Los Angeles to President Trump, whose current immigration policies stand at the heart of the ignited crisis in the American streets.
