Sudanese Army Deploys Large Military Reinforcements in Kordofan in Preparation for Possible Confrontations

The Sudanese armed forces have deployed large reinforcements to the Kordofan region in the west of the country in an attempt to strengthen their defenses in strategic areas and roads linking Kordofan and Darfur to confront the recent expansion of the Rapid Support Forces, according to Al Arabiya/Al Hadath.
Sources expect that the border areas between the three Kordofan states will witness open military confrontations in the coming days amid a state of "cautious calm" prevailing in the region after fierce battles between the two sides. During these battles, the army managed to regain control of the "Um Samima" area west of the city of Al-Obied, the capital of North Kordofan, which had fallen into the hands of the Rapid Support Forces for hours.
In a related context, the city of Al-Obied is witnessing a continuous influx of displaced people from neighboring villages and localities fleeing the repeated attacks by the Rapid Support Forces, which have targeted dozens of villages and resulted in civilian casualties. In a shocking incident, the Sudan Doctors Network reported that the Rapid Support Forces attacked the village of "Hilat Hamid" near Um Qarfa, resulting in the death of 8 people, in addition to widespread looting.
The Kordofan region is considered one of the main battlegrounds between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since the outbreak of the civil war in April 2023. Previous reports by the Associated Press indicate that the area has become a vital front due to its strategic location linking Darfur and eastern Sudan, and the prominent military movements it has witnessed such as the siege of "Babanusa" and the capture of "Al-Fula".
The ongoing war between the two sides has resulted in the deaths of more than 40,000 people, according to recent estimates, in addition to the displacement of tens of thousands and the worsening of humanitarian crises, especially with the difficulty of delivering aid to the affected areas.
