According to Moroccan media reports, a massive fire broke out in the vegetable and fruit market in the city of Tetouan on the evening of last Friday until this morning, coinciding with the first day of Ramadan, just a few days after a huge fire engulfed the famous "Al Qorob" market in Tangier.
The local site "Hespress" reported that flames spread rapidly in the market during the early hours of Saturday, leading to the burning of large quantities of goods without any human casualties.
Flames were visible from a distance, and thick smoke covered the sky of the "White Dove" area, causing a state of extreme alertness that prompted the regional governor of Tetouan to rush to the scene to oversee firefighting efforts, according to "Hespress".
Markets Engulfed by Flames
Local authorities and security forces rushed to the fire site where civil defense teams quickly surrounded the flames and prevented them from spreading to other areas in an attempt to contain the damage.
The Moroccan public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to uncover the circumstances of the fire, which was widely circulated through videos on social media platforms.
Moroccan media reports indicated that plastic boxes in the market helped fuel the flames, causing widespread concern among security forces and shop owners to assess the damages.
Just about a week ago, a massive fire broke out in the "Al Qorob" market in Tangier, where firefighting teams made great efforts to extinguish the fire, but it destroyed the majority of shops in the market and caused severe financial losses to the traders.
The famous market in Tangier is known for selling clothes and shoes, attracting popular classes, and includes 626 shops equipped with modern specifications as part of a project costing 74.3 million dirhams, covering an area of 13,300 square meters.
What sparked controversy and raised more than one question on social media among activists in Morocco is that these two fires occurred after a third fire destroyed about 400 commercial shops in the city of Marrakech in the north of the country two weeks ago.
