Assassination of an official involved in arms smuggling between Syria and Lebanon.

The Israeli army stated today, Friday, February 28, that "the air force attacked a target on Thursday in the Hermel area in Lebanon near the Syrian border."
It added that the airstrike led to the killing of Mohammad Mahdi Ali Shahin, a member of "Hezbollah," who was coordinating weapons procurement operations on the Syrian-Lebanese border since the implementation of agreements between Israel and Lebanon.
It noted that "Shahin was a key member in Hezbollah's geographical unit responsible for the Bekaa region, and was recently involved in transporting weapons from Syria to Lebanon."
The Israeli army also stated that Shahin was tasked with carrying out "terrorist deals to purchase weapons for the terrorist organization and mediating between the arrival of shipments and distributing them to different units, in order to continue the reestablishment of Hezbollah."
It added that he "worked with a number of traders or smugglers on the Syrian-Lebanese border who were cooperating with Hezbollah."
Since the middle of last year, the Israeli army has been carrying out airstrikes targeting legitimate and illegitimate border crossings between Syria and Lebanon.
On February 23, Israeli aircraft struck weapon transfer and smuggling routes on the Syrian-Lebanese border, as announced by the Israeli army at that time.
