Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Shaaban, affirmed during the opening of the National Dialogue Conference today, Tuesday, 25/02/2025, that Syria is facing significant challenges at the current stage, emphasizing that the new administration will not tolerate any infringement on the country's sovereignty and independence.
Al-Shaaban stated in his speech: "Syria has faced exceptional circumstances in recent years, not limited to a deliberate war instigated by the regime. Despite the challenges, after liberation, we did not succumb to pressure and worked on openness and effective diplomacy," indicating that Damascus's approach has been clear from the beginning, considering Syria an integral part of its surroundings.
He also emphasized that Syria is keen on developing strong relations with countries that respect its sovereignty, confirming that Damascus has not closed the door to dialogue with any country seeking to build relationships based on mutual respect. He stressed that Syria will not accept any encroachment on its sovereignty and identity and will strive to build relationships with parties that have stood by it, while remaining open to those who respect its people's will.
Regarding the priorities of Syrian foreign policy, the Syrian Foreign Minister reiterated that Syria has faced exceptional circumstances in recent years, not limited to a deliberate war instigated by the ousted regime, adding: "Despite the challenges, after liberation, we did not succumb to pressure and worked on openness and effective diplomacy."
The Syrian Foreign Minister further stated that Damascus has taken several steps to regain its active role regionally and internationally, saying: "Syria has participated in important international conferences in the past period, a significant step in regaining its role in the international political arena," noting that Syria will participate in the upcoming Arab summit as part of efforts to enhance its diplomatic presence in the region.
Al-Shaaban also affirmed that Syria continues serious diplomatic efforts with all countries that believe in dialogue and cooperation, emphasizing that reconstruction, lifting sanctions, and opening new investment prospects are the priorities of Syrian foreign policy in the upcoming phase.
