In an important statement, Lebanese President Michel Aoun revealed yesterday, Friday, that he has had direct contacts with Hezbollah in order to reach a solution regarding the party's arms file, indicating that the negotiations are progressing slowly.
This came during his reception of a delegation from the Press Club at Baabda Palace, where Aoun affirmed a positive response to the proposed ideas to resolve this sensitive issue, emphasizing the necessity of dealing objectively and wisely, because "no one desires war, and no one is capable of bearing its consequences."
Regarding the security situation in southern Lebanon, President Aoun explained that the Lebanese army is deployed in all areas, except those still occupied by Israel, hindering the full deployment of the army.
As for the Lebanese demands presented to the US envoy Tom Barrack, Aoun confirmed that Lebanon is awaiting a response to the document submitted, which includes a clear demand for Israel to adhere to the ceasefire agreement and withdraw from the five hills.
He pointed out that "when security agencies and political will agree on a common goal, there is no fear for Lebanon," confirming that the army and security forces continue their work in combating terrorism, and warning against fake news aimed at causing confusion.
Regarding the fight against corruption, President Aoun emphasized his full support for the judiciary in opening any corruption file, regardless of sectarian or party backgrounds, noting that the open files include individuals from various sects and affiliations, affirming that he will continue working until the end.
Aoun added that there have been positive achievements since last February, including the formation of the government, the appointment of the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, heads of security agencies, and municipal elections, emphasizing the importance of restoring Lebanese relations with Arab countries to their proper level.
The Lebanese President categorically denied rumors of clashes in Hermel between the Lebanese army and Syrians, clarifying that he contacted the army commander to verify the matter, which turned out to be untrue.
