Jordanian authorities referred yesterday, Tuesday, July 1, the case of mass poisoning resulting from consuming alcoholic beverages contaminated with toxic methanol to the Public Prosecutor of the Grand Criminal Court, after recording 9 deaths and 57 injuries.
The Public Security Directorate confirmed that the investigation team has completed its work and handed over the case file with all those involved to take the necessary legal actions.
It explained that the recent increase in injuries is related to an event in the Deir Alla district in Balqa Governorate, where 32 people were treated after consuming the contaminated drinks.
The regulatory authorities have also withdrawn all contaminated products from the markets and seized them in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration.
The Ministry of Health reported that 25 patients are receiving regular treatment, with 12 in intensive care, including 6 on ventilators, and their condition is critical.
The Ministry urged everyone to immediately go to hospitals when symptoms of poisoning appear, emphasizing that early intervention is the only way to survive.
This incident is one of the most dangerous cases of mass poisoning related to alcohol in Jordan's history, prompting a review of the control of the beverage sector and addressing unsafe manufacturing practices.
