Istanbul: Armed Attack Claims Life of Turkish Sports Club President

Surveillance cameras captured the moment of the assassination of the president of a Turkish sports club, after he was shot directly in the head while inside a café in Istanbul.
According to Turkish media, Tuncay Meriç (49 years old), president of Alimdağ Spor, was attacked by an unidentified assailant in the Çekmeköy area, where he was shot in the head and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, before succumbing to his injuries.
The Turkish police have launched a large operation to identify the attacker and apprehend him, after he fled the scene following the incident, which was recorded by surveillance cameras in the area.
Meriç is considered a prominent figure in local sports circles; he has led Alimdağ Spor for many years and contributed to initiatives encouraging youth to engage in sports activities in the Çekmeköy area and neighboring regions.
It is worth noting that Alimdağ Spor 1877, which was founded in 2010 on the Asian side of Istanbul, competes in the Istanbul First Amateur League and has achieved several local championships, most notably the regional amateur league championship in 2018-2019, along with titles in the Istanbul amateur league in 2012, 2015, and 2017.
