The Israeli army announced today the death of an officer with the rank of captain due to an ammunition explosion during a military mission in the Khan Younis area in southern Gaza.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the incident occurred around one o'clock in the afternoon, while a force from the "Shimson" battalion was carrying out an operation to destroy buildings and comb the area, starting from a defensive position where they had been stationed for weeks.
According to the statement, an explosive device belonging to the army detonated for reasons that are still under investigation, resulting in severe injuries to Captain Ori Garletz (20 years old). Despite receiving first aid on the field and being later transferred to "Soroka" Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
The Israeli army indicated that the incident is classified as an "operational incident," confirming that an investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances surrounding it.
