Israeli warplanes launched an airstrike yesterday evening, Wednesday, targeting a military site belonging to the Syrian army in the Latakia countryside.
Sources reported that the bombing hit Brigade 107 stationed in the village of Zama, which is part of the city of Jableh, causing loud explosions in the area, with no immediate information on the scale of human or material losses.
This attack comes amid a noticeable escalation in the Syrian arena, especially in the south;
just days ago, the Israeli army announced the execution of field raids near the Golan Heights, in the area of Hader in southern Syria, claiming they targeted weapons smuggling networks.
It added that its forces seized quantities of weapons and interrogated several individuals suspected of involvement in smuggling operations.
Israel had conducted a series of airstrikes in July on military sites in the capital Damascus and the province of Sweida, targeting sites belonging to the new Syrian authorities, amid violent clashes that recently erupted in Sweida.
These operations are part of an announced Israeli policy to prevent what it describes as the entrenchment of Iranian presence or the smuggling of weapons to Hezbollah on Syrian territory, amid rising tensions on various fronts.
