The official spokesperson for the Israeli army, Avichai Adraee, announced yesterday, Wednesday, the execution of a series of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah's infrastructure in southern Lebanon, in an escalatory move aimed at preventing the rehabilitation of the party's military capabilities.
Adraee stated via the "X" platform that the strikes destroyed weapons warehouses, a missile platform, and infrastructure used by the party to store engineering equipment designated for rebuilding what he described as "terrorist infrastructure" in southern Lebanon.
These strikes come amid Hezbollah's ongoing attempts to repair its military facilities in various areas of Lebanon, as confirmed by the spokesperson.
The Israeli airstrikes primarily targeted the outskirts of the northern Deir Siryan area, near the Litani River, where the strikes resulted in several civilian injuries, following the targeting of a garage for vehicles and bulldozers near inhabited houses.
According to local sources, the strikes also included areas between the towns of Yahmour, Shaqif, Adchit Qusair, and Deir Siryan in southern Lebanon.
In a related context, the region is witnessing increasing tension despite the ceasefire agreement that began to be implemented in November 2024, mediated by the United States, after a long conflict that lasted more than a year between Israel and Hezbollah, which has escalated significantly since last September.
The agreement stipulates Hezbollah's withdrawal from the area south of the Litani River, extending about 30 kilometers from the Lebanese border, and dismantling its military structure there, in exchange for enhancing the deployment of the Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL).
The agreement also calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the areas they advanced to during the conflict, but Tel Aviv has maintained its presence in five strategic heights within Lebanese territory, raising ongoing Lebanese demands for complete withdrawal.
Despite the agreement, Israel continues to carry out sporadic strikes on sites in southern Lebanon, asserting that it will not allow Hezbollah to rebuild its military capabilities, and threatening to continue the strikes unless the Lebanese authorities disarm the party.
In contrast, the Lebanese army confirms that Israel is obstructing the deployment of its forces to the south, which complicates the security situation and threatens the stability of the region.
