The spokesperson for the Israeli army, Avichai Adraee, announced that his forces carried out strikes on several sites belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, specifically targeting a network of underground routes, in a move the army considered a response to potential threats to the Israeli state.
Adraee confirmed that the existence of this infrastructure constitutes a direct violation of the agreements signed between Israel and Lebanon.
This escalation comes despite the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024, after a conflict that lasted more than a year between Israel and Hezbollah, which turned into an open confrontation since September of last year.
The agreement stipulated the withdrawal of Hezbollah from the area south of the Litani River and the dismantling of its military structure there, along with enhancing the deployment of the Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL).
The agreement also stipulated the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the areas they advanced into during the war, but Tel Aviv still maintains control over five strategic heights that Lebanon demands to withdraw from.
Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israel continues to carry out airstrikes on sites in southern Lebanon under the pretext of targeting Hezbollah elements and preventing the rebuilding of its military structure, affirming its determination to eliminate any threat to its security, and vowing to continue its operations until the party's weapons are dismantled by the Lebanese authorities.
