In a new military escalation, the Israeli Air Force launched intensive airstrikes on military sites in Damascus and southern Syria, targeting military bases that previously served the Syrian army, as well as combat equipment, according to field sources.
Simultaneously with the airstrikes, Israeli occupation forces advanced to the administrative borders between the provinces of Daraa and Quneitra, in a move reflecting a more aggressive policy towards southern Syria.
The Israeli Defense Minister, Yisrael Katz, affirmed that his country will not allow southern Syria to turn into another southern Lebanon, emphasizing that "any attempt by the Syrian army to build military capabilities there will be met with fire."
He added that the Israeli Air Force is "currently heavily attacking in southern Syria" as part of this new strategy.
This escalation comes amid increasing tensions on the northern front, where Israel seeks to impose new equations that prevent any Syrian military presence or armed factions near its borders.
Will these developments lead to a wider confrontation in the region?
