The Israeli army confirmed in a statement today, Sunday, the assassination of "Salah al-Bardawil," a political leader in Hamas. Hamas earlier announced that "al-Bardawil" was killed in an airstrike on Khan Yunis in southern Gaza. Pro-Hamas media reported that "al-Bardawil," a member of the movement's political bureau, and his wife were killed in the Israeli airstrike. Israel resumed its intensive airstrikes on Gaza last Tuesday, accusing Hamas of abandoning the ceasefire agreement that began on January 19. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeatedly stated that the main goal of the war is to eliminate Hamas as a military and governing entity. He added that "the goal of the new campaign is to force the movement to release the remaining prisoners it holds."
