Syrian military sources reported that Israeli forces conducted an air drop operation on a former air defense base in the southwestern countryside of Damascus, as part of a series of strikes that targeted the area, before the attacking forces withdrew.

According to the sources, the targeted base had been used by Iran during the rule of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The strikes extended to include the area of al-Kisweh and the strategic Mount Maan, which are among the most prominent military sites relied upon by Iran-aligned factions during Assad's era.

For its part, an Israeli military spokesperson declined to comment on the reports, stating: "We do not comment on foreign reports."

This comes a day after Syrian state media announced the death of six Syrian soldiers in Israeli drone strikes that targeted the countryside of Damascus near the same area.

Israeli incursions in southern Syria are escalating alongside security talks between the two countries aimed at reducing tensions.

Another military source indicated that there is a "belief that equipment remains in the area, possibly left by Iran-backed faction fighters who were stationed there," noting that the Syrian army has established a symbolic presence at the site since then.

According to the same source, there are "preliminary reports of human losses" resulting from the operation, without providing additional details in this regard.
