Iraq: Counter-Terrorism Service announces thwarting of ISIS cell activities and arrests 11 terrorists

The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service announced today, Tuesday, August 12, the execution of a series of qualitative operations in several provinces, resulting in the arrest of 11 terrorists and the destruction of sites used by ISIS terrorist cells.

In a statement published on the official page of the service on "Facebook", it was stated that these operations were carried out "as part of the ongoing national efforts to pursue the remnants of ISIS gangs", based on judicial orders and precise intelligence follow-up.

Security forces managed to arrest a number of suspects in the provinces of Nineveh, Kirkuk, Salah al-Din, and Sulaymaniyah, where five terrorists were arrested in Nineveh, four in Kirkuk, and one in Salah al-Din, while a joint arrest operation with the "Asayish" forces in Sulaymaniyah led to the arrest of another terrorist element.

In coordination with military aviation, security forces destroyed a number of terrorist sites, including 10 hideouts, 3 tunnels, and a cave containing explosives in Nineveh, in addition to cleansing 13 hideouts and destroying 3 other tunnels in Salah al-Din, where landmines and explosive devices were controlled.

Joint operations with the National Intelligence Service also resulted in the inspection of suspicious sites in Kirkuk, which included 10 hideouts and 3 tunnels, while a rocky hideout in Diyala that was used as a safe haven for terrorists was destroyed.

The service confirmed that these campaigns are part of the preemptive strikes aimed at "ending what remains of the remnants of the terrorist gangs that target the security of citizens", praising the cooperation between various security agencies to ensure the stability of the country.
