Iran's Supreme Court Upholds the Death Sentence of Labor Activist Sharifa Mohammadi

The Supreme Court of Iran has upheld the death sentence issued against prominent labor activist Sharifa Mohammadi, making it final and unappealable, according to the local newspaper Shargh, citing her lawyer Amir Reisiann.
Reisiann stated that the judicial body, which had previously overturned the sentence due to what he described as "legal ambiguities," has now confirmed the ruling definitively.
Security authorities arrested Sharifa Mohammadi in December 2023 in the city of Rasht in northern Iran, charging her with belonging to the "Komala" group, one of the Kurdish opposition parties.
In July 2024, the "Islamic Revolutionary Court" in Rasht issued a death sentence for Mohammadi on charges of "armed rebellion against the regime," which sparked widespread controversy and criticism from human rights organizations.
With this confirmation, the activist held in Lakan Prison in Rasht is now threatened with the execution of the sentence, amid anticipation of international positions and reactions from human rights organizations.
