The spokesperson of the Iranian judiciary, Asghar Jahangir, confirmed in a press conference last month that the Supreme Court in Iran upheld the death sentence issued against the Iranian singer known as Tatālū (Amir Hossein Maghsoudlou), who is 37 years old. Tatālū is being tried on charges of "insulting Islamic sanctities," "spreading anti-government propaganda," and "promoting corruption and prostitution," accusations attributed to the content of his songs and public stances in recent years, especially after the 2022 protests following the death of Mahsa Amini. Initially sentenced to five years in prison by a Tehran criminal court for blasphemy, Tatālū had his sentence rejected by the Supreme Court as "lenient," prompting a review of the case. On January 12, 2025, another court issued a death sentence, which was later confirmed by the Supreme Court. Tatālū has been in prison since November 2023 when he was deported from Turkey due to the expiration of his passport, and was immediately arrested upon his return to Iran.
