The First Vice President of Iran, Mohammad Reza Aref, stated today, Tuesday, that Iran can hold direct nuclear talks with the United States if the suitable conditions are met.
Aref described the American demands for Tehran to completely abandon uranium enrichment as a "joke".
The sixth round of talks between Tehran and Washington was halted following Israeli and American attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities in June.
Aref added: "Iran is ready to negotiate under equal conditions to protect its interests... The position of the Islamic Republic aligns with the will of the people. If the suitable conditions are available, we are even ready for direct talks."
The previous rounds of negotiations began in April and were indirect, mediated by Oman.
Washington claims that uranium enrichment in Iran represents a pathway to developing nuclear weapons and must be abandoned, which Iran denies, stating it is for "peaceful nuclear purposes".
