The American newspaper "New York Times" reported today, Friday, citing an Iranian source, the killing of Ismail Qaani, the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. The news of Qaani's death adds to the list of prominent leaders killed in the Israeli military strikes on Iran. Israel carried out an intensive military operation targeting sensitive sites in Iran early Friday. Israel had targeted other Iranian leaders before Qaani, including the commander of the Revolutionary Guard, Qasem Soleimani, and the Chief of Staff of the Army, Mohammad Bagheri, who were killed in the strikes. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel targeted to "thwart the Iranian threat to Israel's existence."
