In new statements, Iranian President's Assistant Mohammad Reza Aref reiterated yesterday, Tuesday, August 5, Tehran's accusation that the United States is the main reason for the failure of the nuclear negotiations that began between the two countries several months ago.
During the conference of landlocked developing countries in Turkmenistan, Aref said that some countries, instead of condemning the Israeli attacks on Iran, provided direct support to the "Zionist entity," which exacerbates the region's crises.
He added that Washington supported these attacks and "directly intervened in striking Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities," referring to the targeting of the facilities during the 12-day war last June between Iran and Israel, in which the United States participated.
Aref confirmed that the United States is the one that destroyed the "negotiation table" at a time when the sixth round of nuclear talks mediated by Oman was being arranged, which reinforced global distrust in Washington's commitments.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Ministry Assistant Saeed Khatibzadeh emphasized days ago that Tehran is not in a hurry to enter into any kind of interaction or indirect negotiation with Washington, amid ongoing sharp disagreements between the two sides.
Iran and the United States had held five rounds of nuclear negotiations mediated by Oman, but they stopped after the escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel.
The main disagreements revolve around Washington's demand for Iran to completely halt domestic uranium enrichment, a condition that Tehran strongly rejects.
These developments reflect the complexity of the Iranian nuclear scene, where regional politics intertwine with conflicting international interests, amid ongoing tensions that threaten the chances of returning to the dialogue table.
