Iranian Parliament Discusses Decision to Tighten Espionage Sanctions

The Iranian Parliament's Presidency announced today, Sunday, that the council will discuss a new decision this week aimed at tightening espionage sanctions in the country.
The National Security Committee in the council has completed the final report on the decision, to be officially included on the agenda of the first general session of the council during the current week.
The decision aims to increase the severity of sanctions imposed on those convicted of espionage, whether individuals or networks. The committee had prepared a detailed report on the need to tighten sanctions, based on the assessment of recent security threats.
After the decision is included on the agenda, it will be discussed and voted on in the general session, paving the way for its approval and implementation in the near future.
This move comes amid escalating security tensions in the region and increasing fears of espionage operations targeting Iranian state institutions. The new decision is expected to include harsher penalties, such as stricter prison terms, increased fines, and possibly additional penalties for those proven to be involved in espionage for foreign entities.
July witnessed a noticeable escalation in the espionage file between Iran and Israel, as Iranian authorities announced the dismantling of espionage networks linked to Israel and the arrest of dozens of suspects collaborating with Mossad inside the country. Iranian security agencies confirmed obtaining "valuable" information about these networks, with ongoing investigations and formal charges being brought against some detainees.
During the same period, Evin Prison in Tehran was hit by an Israeli missile attack, resulting in the death of several prisoners and the escape of some. However, Iranian authorities denied the escape of any suspects in espionage cases for Israel.
Official reports also indicated that part of the recent Israeli operations in Iran was carried out with the assistance of local agents, reflecting the extent of Israeli intelligence penetration inside Iranian territory.
On the other hand, Iran executed a number of individuals accused of spying for Israel in recent weeks and gave a "last chance" to what it described as "deceived individuals" to surrender themselves. Iranian authorities also confirmed the continuation of arrests and the dismantling of factories associated with the preparation of drones used in attacks inside the country.
