Iranian Legislator: Iran Has the Right to Withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty After US Attacks

Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian Parliament, Abbas Golrou, announced via the "X" platform today, Sunday, June 22, that Tehran has the legal right to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty based on its Article X, in response to the US airstrikes targeting three Iranian nuclear facilities.
Article X of the treaty states that each member state has "the right to withdraw from the Treaty if it decides that extraordinary events have jeopardized its supreme interests."
Meanwhile, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, announced today on "X" that an emergency meeting of the Agency's Board of Governors will be held on Monday to discuss the recent developments in Iran. In a swift response, the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization threatened to hold Grossi accountable through international channels.
In a related context, the Iranian Student News Network quoted the head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, confirming in a message to Grossi that Tehran demands an international investigation into the US attacks on its nuclear facilities. The Iranian official urged Grossi to "condemn the American aggression and take necessary actions," accusing him of "cowardice and complicity," and affirming that Iran will take appropriate legal measures.
In a previous statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the US attacks as a "serious violation of the UN Charter, international law, and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons," emphasizing that Iran "retains all options to defend its sovereignty and people." Araghchi also called for an emergency meeting of the Security Council, labeling the attacks in a post on "X" as "heinous events with lasting consequences."
