The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded today, Sunday, to what it described as "brazen statements" by German officials regarding the ongoing confrontations between Iran and Israel, reminding of some "historical facts." The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Remember historical facts: Germany ignited two world wars, but Iranians, out of humanitarian motives, provided refuge to Jews fleeing Hitler's attacks." He added, "Ask the survivors of Polish or French refugees who obtained Iranian passports to escape Hitler's tyranny." He concluded by saying, "Those who have always been on the wrong side of history would be better off now to remain silent." Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz commented on the confrontations between Iran and Israel, considering that "Israel has the right to defend its existence and the security of its citizens," and "has the right to defend itself against any attack." Merz stated in a post on "X": "The German government has repeatedly expressed concern for many years about Iran's highly advanced nuclear program," recalling that "the International Atomic Energy Agency has reiterated that Iran continues to not fulfill its obligations regarding disclosing its activities related to the enrichment of nuclear materials for military use. Iran has threatened in return to accelerate uranium enrichment once again." Merz emphasized that "Israel has the right to defend its existence and the security of its citizens," calling on both parties to "refrain from taking steps that could lead to further escalation, which could destabilize the entire region."
