The Ministry of Public Works and Housing began a workshop today, Tuesday, to discuss the preparation of a housing situation report in Syria, in coordination with the United Nations Human Settlements Program "Mouatil", with the participation of several relevant parties, and it will continue for two days.

During the workshop, Assistant Minister of Public Works and Housing Engineer Mary Claire Tellie explained that the aim of this event is to assess the housing situation in Syria, discuss the preparation of a comprehensive national report, which will be the primary reference for developing a national housing strategy based on accurate data, scientific analysis, realistic vision, respecting Syrian privacy, and responding to the challenges and aspirations of Syrians.

Engineer Tellie also highlighted the major challenges, including ensuring the dignified and safe return of displaced persons to their areas, in addition to the practical challenges of reconstruction, requiring massive resources and long-term planning, emphasizing the importance of completing the housing report as it paves the way for sustainable housing planning, establishes a more just housing structure, and builds resilience in the face of crises.

Deputy Director of the "Mouatil" Program in Syria, Felicity Keane, emphasized the importance of collective work and cooperation to complete the housing situation report in Syria, serving the construction of a housing strategy in the upcoming phase, especially since the program works towards a better and sustainable urban future.
