Alaska state in the US is closely monitoring the significant increase in seismic activity recently observed in Mount Spurr with great concern and caution, raising fears of a possible volcanic eruption. Despite data released by the Alaska Volcano Observatory indicating that shallow earthquakes beneath the mountain have returned to high levels recorded in March, after decreasing in March and April, concerns persist. Observatory data suggests a low likelihood of an imminent volcanic eruption, but the 11,000-foot volcano remains in a disturbed state requiring monitoring. Researcher Matt Haney confirmed the unstable situation, hinting at ongoing seismic activity beneath the mountain, yet monitoring data until May 29 showed no clear signs of an imminent eruption. Experts explained that any potential eruption would be preceded by warning signs, such as the emission of an ash column reaching up to 50,000 feet, which could affect the nearby city of Anchorage. Despite the potential damage an eruption could cause, experts and specialists have reassured residents that residential areas will not be directly impacted, although air traffic may be disrupted, as was the case in 2006 when ash covered Anchorage and led to the closure of the airport.
