The Israeli army announced on Friday, July 19th, the detection of a ballistic missile launch from Yemen towards Israeli territories, confirming that the air defense systems are working to intercept it.
This came after air raid sirens sounded as a warning of airstrikes in several areas inside Israel, causing panic among the residents.
In an official statement, the Houthi group claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that its missile force carried out a "qualitative military operation" targeting Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, using a supersonic missile of the "Palestine 2" type.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree confirmed that the operation succeeded in achieving its objectives, leading to millions fleeing to shelters and disrupting air traffic at the airport.
This is the second strike within 48 hours launched from Yemen towards Israel, where the attack resulted in the suspension of flights at Ben Gurion Airport, as reported by Israeli Channel 12.
On the other hand, the Houthis continue to launch missile attacks on Israel and on ships in the Red Sea that they claim belong to Israel, while Israel responds with intensive airstrikes targeting Houthi locations in Yemen.
The Israeli army recently announced airstrikes involving around 20 fighter jets on the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif in response to the attacks.
This escalation is part of an escalating series of tensions between the two parties since the end of 2023, with exchanges of strikes and threats, further complicating the security situation in the region.
