Houthi gunmen stormed the offices of United Nations agencies in the capital Sana'a today, Sunday, including the offices of the World Food Program (WFP) and UNICEF, and arrested several of their employees.
A Yemeni source, who wished to remain anonymous, told the German news agency (dpa) that the raid resulted in the arrest of seven employees from the World Food Program and three others from UNICEF.
The source added that the Houthi gunmen took the detainees to an unknown location, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
So far, there has been no official comment from the Houthi group regarding the details or reasons for the operation. This attack comes less than 24 hours after the Houthis announced the death of their government head, Ahmed al-Rahawi, and several ministers in the Israeli attack that targeted a government meeting in Sana'a last Thursday.
It is worth noting that this incident is not the first of its kind, as the Houthi group has previously detained international employees working in UN agencies, some of whom are still in custody.
The group has also accused some workers in international organizations of spying for the United States, amid sharp international criticism of these accusations, which some see as part of a smear campaign against humanitarian workers.
Tensions continue in Sana'a and many areas of Yemen, where political and security conflicts are reflected in the humanitarian field, complicating the relief situation in a country suffering from the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
