Amid increasing international condemnation of President Donald Trump's plan regarding the acquisition of Gaza Strip and the deportation of its inhabitants, the new Syrian President, Ahmed Al-Shar'a, announced his rejection of this step.
In an exclusive interview with the British podcast THE REST IS POLITICS, Al-Shar'a affirmed today, Monday, that expelling Palestinians from their land is considered a major crime that will never be carried out, emphasizing that "there is no force that can expel the landowners from their land," expressing his firm rejection of Trump's controversial plan. He described Trump's promotion of this idea as "unwise."
Trump had announced yesterday evening his intention to purchase and own the Gaza Strip, indicating his intention to grant parts of the sector to other countries in the Middle East to assist in reconstruction efforts, without specifying those countries. He claimed that his plan would turn Gaza into "an ideal site for future development."
Trump's statements faced wide international and Arab criticism, with Arab and Western countries, and even Washington's traditional allies, reaffirming their commitment to the two-state solution and their firm rejection of displacement, considering it a blatant violation of international laws and United Nations resolutions regarding Palestine.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump's plan, describing it as a "good and unprecedented idea," considering it as providing a "reasonable solution" to the ongoing conflict.
This comes at a time when Arab and Western countries continue to emphasize the importance of respecting the rights of the Palestinian people and the necessity of dealing sensitively with humanitarian issues in the region.
