In a new step to relieve pressure on distribution centers, the "Humanitarian Gaza Foundation," supported by the U.S., began yesterday, Sunday, June 8th, the first direct distribution of food aid through trucks outside its fixed centers in the northern areas of Rafah in southern Gaza. According to the Israeli broadcasting authority "Kan," around 20 trucks participated in the operation, assisted by local Palestinian workers. The newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" reported that the distribution was smooth and without any notable incidents at the distribution sites. However, in the vicinity of the distribution sites, 12 Palestinians were killed and others were injured by Israeli army gunfire while heading to the aid points, according to Palestinian medical sources and eyewitnesses, who reported that the forces fired near a roundabout one kilometer away from a distribution center in Rafah. The Israeli army claimed to have fired warning shots towards "suspects" who did not respond to their warnings, indicating that the area was an "active combat zone" the previous night. The incident comes after weeks of repeated incidents near aid centers, resulting in the deaths of more than 80 Palestinians, prompting the foundation to temporarily close its centers to review safety procedures in coordination with the Israeli army, warning residents not to deviate from the designated paths to reach the sites. Nevertheless, the foundation announced that it will open three new distribution centers today, Monday: - Wadi Gaza Center (central Gaza) at 6 a.m. - Tal Al Sultan neighborhood centers (southern Gaza) at 12 p.m. The foundation also advised residents not to arrive before the opening times. It confirmed that it distributed an additional 17,000 food boxes on Sunday at the three sites and described the operation as "organized and smooth."
