The General Administration of Border Guards in Syria announced today, Tuesday, the foiling of an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of narcotic substances across the Syrian-Lebanese border, in the Serghaya area of the Damascus countryside, after executing a tight ambush by the border guard units.

Major Mouayad Al-Salama, the commander of the western region in the border guards, stated that the security operation resulted in an armed clash when Lebanese smugglers arrived at the site, where they opened fire on the Syrian smuggler and the guard members, leading to the death of one Lebanese smuggler, and the injury of another who was arrested and referred to the competent judiciary.

The administration confirmed that the smuggled shipment was fully seized, emphasizing that its units continue to perform their duties with determination to prevent the smuggling of weapons and narcotic substances and anything that threatens the security of the homeland and the safety of citizens.

This operation comes amid escalating attempts to smuggle across the Lebanese-Syrian border, which features difficult terrain and tribal interconnections that facilitate infiltration operations, necessitating intensified joint security efforts to control the borders and prevent the spread of this dangerous scourge.
