Russia has allowed, for the first time in over 100 years, Muslim men to marry up to 4 women. The Spiritual Administration's Council of Scholars has set several conditions for polygamy, stating that if these conditions are not met, a man is not allowed to marry more than one wife unless one of them waives these rights.
The conditions include the husband being fair and providing equal financial support to his wives, ensuring separate housing for each of them, dividing his time among them, obtaining the first wife's consent before marrying again, and in case of infertility, informing the new wife about his family situation, or else she has the right to request a divorce.
It is worth mentioning that Russian law only recognizes marriages that are officially registered by the state, and in religious marriages, women do not have legal protection in Russia.
