In an important security step, the Lebanese Army announced yesterday, Thursday, July 24, 2025, the arrest of an ISIS-affiliated terror cell that was planning to carry out hostile acts targeting its military units, based on instructions from organization leaders outside Lebanon.
A statement issued by the army stated that the Intelligence Directorate carried out a series of precise security operations resulting in the arrest of three individuals identified as (A.S), (W.S), and (B.F), who were involved in forming this terror cell.
The statement added that preliminary investigations revealed that the cell was planning operations against the Lebanese Army, and the army continued to pursue the remaining members of the cell to apprehend them.
In a previous development, the army had announced on June 25 last year the arrest of the ISIS leader in Lebanon, known by the alias "Qasura", who was found in possession of a large quantity of weapons and ammunition, in addition to electronic devices and equipment for manufacturing drones.
These developments come amidst enhanced security cooperation between Lebanon and Syria to confront the threat of ISIS, especially after the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on the same day the arrest of all members of an ISIS cell that carried out a devastating explosion at the Mar Elias Church in Damascus, which resulted in the death of 25 people and the injury of 63 others.
These measures underscore the seriousness of the Lebanese and Syrian authorities in combating terrorism and protecting security and stability in the region.
