The devastating floods in Yemen claim the lives of 8 people

Officials and local sources reported today, Saturday, that at least 8 people have died, including children, and others were injured in several governorates in northern and eastern Yemen due to devastating floods and heavy rains over the past two days.

Local sources in Hajjah governorate in the northwest of the country stated that 3 sibling children aged between 5 and 11 years old died on Saturday due to the collapse of their home.

According to local sources, the heavy rains affecting several areas in Hajjah have caused widespread destruction to the homes and properties of hundreds of displaced people in the Abs area in the west of the governorate.

A father and his son also drowned in the floodwaters on Wednesday evening in the Aseelan district in the northwest of Shabwa governorate, just hours after two children and a young man drowned in incidents in the governorate and in the neighboring Hadhramaut, raising the number of drowning deaths in the floodwaters in Shabwa and Hadhramaut to 5 cases within 48 hours. This is according to local sources and residents in Shabwa governorate in southeastern Yemen.

The city of Aden in the south of the country witnessed, today Saturday, unprecedented devastating floods and heavy rains that lasted for several hours, causing a near-total halt to traffic in several streets and main intersections for the second time in less than a week.
