The spokesperson for the Fact-Finding Committee on the events in the Syrian coast, Yasser Al-Farhan, clarified that the committee will visit the detention centers of those involved or suspected of involvement in the recent events, whether affiliated with the ousted regime or other groups, to listen to them and document their testimonies. Al-Farhan stated in an interview with Al-Arabiya TV that the committee has requested the Syrian government to allow visits to the detention centers of those suspected of involvement, whether affiliated with the Assad regime or unaffiliated groups from the region. He mentioned that the hearing sessions are scheduled for the upcoming Friday and Saturday, aiming to investigate the government's accountability measures towards the involved individuals, securing those areas to prevent new violations, and the Syrian state's conditions during the violations and its control over the implicated groups or individuals. Al-Farhan reported that the committee has been active in all areas where violations occurred, listened to witnesses, and documented about 100 testimonies. He emphasized that witnesses spoke freely without any constraints or interference from authorities, and measures were taken to protect them by hearing their testimonies in a secluded place and preserving their identities. Al-Farhan explained that the committee is independent, its members are not government employees, some residing abroad, and any criticism of the committee is unwarranted. He highlighted that the committee, with all its members, values freedom of expression and the importance of independent media access to all areas, which is under consideration for a recommendation to the Syrian government, and the committee relies on various media reports as a thread during its work.
