In a step that reflects the development of Syrian-Saudi relations and the expansion of cooperation between the two countries, a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia visited Damascus International Airport today to discuss investment opportunities and cooperation in the civil aviation sector, as part of joint efforts to support air transport projects and develop the infrastructure of Syrian airports.
The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, through its official channel on Telegram, stated that the Saudi delegation conducted a field tour inside the airport facilities, accompanied by a delegation from the authority led by the Assistant President of the Authority, Mr. Abdel Bari Al-Sajj. They were briefed on the services, infrastructure, and technologies used in airport management and operation.
The visiting Saudi delegation was headed by the CEO of Riyadh Airports Company, Mr. Ayman Abu Aba, and included Mr. Ali Al-Wahidi representing the Airport Holding Company, and Mr. Mohammed Orangji representing Neera Company, in a visit that is considered the first of its kind at this level in the aviation sector between the two sides in years.
According to the authority, this visit comes in preparation for an upcoming ministerial visit from the Saudi side, following an intensive series of meetings between the Syrian and Saudi sides that lasted for two days. During these meetings, mechanisms of cooperation and investment opportunities in the Syrian aviation sector, as well as the development of airport facilities in the near and medium term, were discussed.
The visit reflects a clear Saudi interest in reopening economic and logistical cooperation channels with Syria, especially in vital sectors such as air transport, indicating a gradual return to Arab integration in infrastructure projects and regional development.
