Egypt warns: "Greater Israel" is a dangerous illusion that threatens the stability of the region

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty warned of the seriousness of recent Israeli statements regarding what he described as "illusions of Greater Israel" and plans for settlement expansion in occupied Jerusalem, stressing that these policies undermine the chances of achieving peace and push the region towards further tension.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement today, Saturday, that Abdel Atty had a phone call with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephol, as part of ongoing consultations regarding developments in Gaza and other regional issues.
During the call, the Egyptian minister reviewed the catastrophic humanitarian and medical situation in the Gaza Strip, and the course of negotiations aimed at achieving a ceasefire, emphasizing Egypt's efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid without restrictions.
Abdel Atty confirmed that the Israeli statements regarding "Greater Israel" alongside plans to build new settlement units in occupied Jerusalem represent a direct threat to regional security and stability. The two ministers agreed on the seriousness of these trends and the negative implications they carry.
The Egyptian minister also emphasized Cairo's complete rejection of Israeli military expansion in Gaza and settlement in the West Bank, considering these policies a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law, calling on the European Union to take a firmer stance against Israeli escalation.
Abdel Atty welcomed the German government's decision to suspend arms and military equipment exports to Israel, considering it a positive step in the right direction.
For his part, the German Foreign Minister praised Egypt's ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of aid to Gaza. The two sides also discussed the Iranian nuclear file, where Abdel Atty reiterated the importance of peaceful solutions and avoiding military escalation in the region.
