Cairo is preparing to host an important meeting in the coming days bringing together officials from Libya and Sudan to exchange views and discuss security challenges and critical developments in the region.
Egyptian sources have reported that the meeting will focus on enhancing coordination and mutual cooperation among the three countries: Egypt, Libya, and Sudan, to ensure national security and protect the highest interests of their peoples, in addition to deepening ties and integration to achieve sustainable stability.
This strategic meeting comes shortly after Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi welcomed in El Alamein city both Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, and General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council.
During his meeting with Haftar, Sisi emphasized that the stability of Libya is an integral part of Egyptian national security, stressing Cairo's relentless efforts in coordination with Libyan parties to support the unity and sovereignty of Libya, and to maintain its security and stability, as well as to restore its development path.
President Sisi also emphasized the importance of withdrawing all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territories, and working to enhance coordination among various parties to establish a comprehensive political roadmap that paves the way for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.
Furthermore, Sisi, during his meeting with Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, reaffirmed Egypt's full support for the unity and sovereignty of Sudan, expressing readiness to exert all efforts to preserve Sudan's security and stability, while confirming the alignment of visions between the two countries regarding security priorities.
He highlighted the importance of continuing joint coordination to protect water security, rejecting unilateral actions in the Blue Nile Basin, and emphasizing the necessity of respecting the rules of international law to achieve the interests of the riparian countries.
This trilateral meeting reflects Egypt's keenness to play a pivotal role in enhancing regional security and stability, and enhances opportunities for cooperation and integration among the countries of Northeast Africa in facing common challenges.
