Due to Security Threats, America Warns Against Traveling to Syria

The US Department of State warned American citizens today, Tuesday, against traveling to Syria, and raised the warning level to level four, pointing to the continuation of security threats and the danger of terrorist violence.
The department hinted at the closure of Syrian airspace to civilian flights, urging American citizens in Syria to use land crossings with either Lebanon or Jordan for departure.
It also noted that the Turkish government announced a temporary permission to enter its territory through land crossings for those who entered Syria by air from Turkey, provided they present flight tickets and proof of residence or a Turkish visa, without the need for additional permission, explaining that the Fishkhabour crossing to Iraq, and the Ibrahim Khalil crossing to Turkey, are considered alternative options.
The department clarified that the Czech Republic, through its embassy in Damascus, is responsible for protecting American interests, but its consular services are limited to specific cases, pointing out that the American embassy in Damascus has remained closed since 2012.
The Department requested its citizens in Syria to contact the American Interests Section at the Czech Embassy in Damascus, and in case that is not possible, it advised contacting the American Embassy in Amman, Jordan for emergency assistance.
The Department urged American citizens to take precautionary measures including avoiding gatherings, staying away from security sites, following local news, keeping an emergency plan, and registering with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
