Saudi security authorities have managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs totaling 646,000 amphetamine pills, concealed inside a shipment of food consisting of 'fava beans' coming through Jeddah Islamic Port.
The Saudi Authority for Zakat, Tax, and Customs clarified that the operation was carried out after subjecting the shipment to customs procedures and thorough inspection using the latest security technologies and means, where the narcotic pills were precisely discovered hidden inside the shipment.
Following the seizure, coordination was made with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, and 3 individuals inside the kingdom who were awaiting receipt of this large quantity of narcotic pills were apprehended.
The Authority's official spokesperson, Hamoud Al-Harbi, affirmed that the Authority continues to tighten control over all imports and exports to protect society from the scourge of drugs, in close cooperation with the relevant authorities.
Al-Harbi urged all citizens and residents to contribute to combating smuggling by reporting any suspicious activity through the unified number 1910 or the email zatca.gov.sa@1910, emphasizing complete confidentiality and providing financial rewards to informants if the report is valid.
