Drone Attack Targets Russian Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, Damages Electrical Transformer

The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant in Russia was attacked by a Ukrainian drone, causing a brief fire and damaging an electrical transformer, according to an official statement.
The plant's press office reported in a statement on the "Telegram" platform on Sunday morning that air defense systems "shot down a combat drone belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces near the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant".
The statement continued: "Upon impact, the drone exploded, resulting in damage to an auxiliary electrical transformer".
The press office confirmed in its statement that "there were no injuries, but as a result of the explosion, the operation of the third unit at the plant was reduced to 50 percent of its capacity," noting that the destroyed drone "caused a fire that was later extinguished".
The office also confirmed that "radiation levels at the site and the surrounding area did not exceed normal limits".
There was no immediate comment from the Ukrainian side regarding the incident, and it was not immediately clear where the exact location of the fire was within the facility.
On the other hand, the Russian television channel "Ren TV" reported from the plant's press office that "the fire broke out in a transformer unit unrelated to the nuclear section of the facility".
This attack comes in the context of previous statements from Kyiv, which announced that "its strikes inside Russia are in response to ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine and aim to destroy infrastructure deemed vital to the overall Russian military efforts".
